Usage: The delightfully sour and sweet asam boi drink is especially personal and close to the heart of most Malaysians as it is a flavour that we have grown up with. From being served this delicacy in mamak stalls, to making it at home after school, everyone is sure to hold a memory close to their heart when it comes to this humble drink.
To put a twist on this rustic drink, simply empty the contents of the 300ml (10.1fl oz) lime-infused asam bi beverage into a tall glass and add a small dash of paprika or chilli powder to turn your beverage into a mocktail that is sure to leave your tastebuds tingling for more.
You can also quickly blend this drink with several ice cubes to create a slushie-like consistency and pour it into popsicle moulds, and freeze it overnight. Start the next day with your very own tongue-numbing sour popsicle made from a single bottle of Cheeper’s asam boi drink.
Certifications: Cheeper's versatile brand has received the following awards and accreditations following a comprehensive review of its manufacturing and production standards, as well as the brand's and its company's quality and general hygienic practises:
Storage: To retain the texture and flavour of the halal asam boi drink, store the beverage in the refrigerator at a temperature of 25 to 30°C (77 to 86°F) once the protective seal has been removed. Before opening, you can store the juice bottle in a dry and cool pantry away from direct sunlight and dampness.
Limau kasturi or the calamansi asam boi drink is a popular Malaysian cocktail made with lime, sour plum, and sugar. The cocktail is produced by blending fresh lime juice with a sugar-sweetened sour plum syrup. Traditionally, the drink is created by mixing sour plums with sugar and water until it achieves a sweet and tangy flavour. The lime juice and sour plum syrup are then combined and served over ice, topped with a sprinkle of salt and a few pieces of preserved sour plum for flavour. The resulting drink is sweet, tangy, and refreshing, with a distinct flavour profile reminiscent of Malaysian food.
However, the tart asam boi drink can also be had warm, although this somewhat deters the natural zesty flavour of the asam boi and the lime. Nevertheless, this locally-loved beverage is one that is a constant in the lives of locals throughout the year, especially during hot, humid seasons namely from May to July of every year.
IDFA Trading was founded in October 2016 to market and deliver special canned drinks to vending machine operators and subsequently began discussions with manufacturers at the end of 2017 to develop its own branded drink, Cheeper, as an OEM. The company then relocated to a larger facility in June 2018 to allow for cheaper water production operations to be carried out 'in-house' under MARDI supervision.
On September 1, 2020, IDFA Trading successfully got Halal certification from Jakim and began an OEM project with customers who want to produce drinking water under their own brand after getting Halal Status for the OEM process.
